Fluoxymesterone

fluoxymesterone

By Usl Pharma

What is this medication for?

Fluoxymesterone belongs to a group of male sex hormones called androgens. Androgens are responsible for the growth and development of the male sex organs as well as male sex characteristics such as chest hair, facial hair, pubic hair, voice changes, and muscle growth. A deficiency of androgens can result in underdeveloped testes and/or impotence.

Fluoxymesterone is used to treat male hypogonadism (androgen deficiency in men). It is also used to treat delayed puberty in boys where it has been established that the delay is not an inherited trait.

In women who are between one and five years past menopause, fluoxymesterone is used for the treatment of certain types of breast cancers that respond to androgen treatment.

How should I use this medication?

The dose of fluoxymesterone varies widely according to the person and condition being treated and the severity of the condition.

For male hypogonadism, the dose ranges from 5 mg to 20 mg daily in single or divided doses.

For delayed puberty the dose is titrated using a low dose and skeletal monitoring. The drug is usually not given for longer than four to six months for this condition.

For breast cancer in females, the dose ranges from 10 mg to 40 mg daily taken in 3 or 4 divided doses. The drug is usually given for one to three months.

Fluoxymesterone can be taken with or without meals. If nausea occurs, taking the medication after meals may help.

It is important that this medication be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular schedule. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Many things can affect the dose of medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.

Store the medication at room temperature and protect from light and moisture.
